  • The voices of Leg-Soft-Vib patches drops out one by one

    Hi Paul,

I'm sitting here and experiment and learning the Synchron Strings I library in Synchron Player and I think I have found a bug and also a frustrating limitation.

There's something wrong with the Leg-Soft-Vib patches. I use all microphone positions in the full library except Room-mix. If I just play one note it's ok, but when I trigger a transition to a second note and hold that note the voices of the different microphones drops out one by one until there is no sound at all.

Then I also discovered that the Voice Limit is too limited. If I for example play a fast repeating octave run with the Leg-Fast-Vib patch the 1024 voices that is the maximum setting is not enough. So I have to split every string section in two separate Sychron Player instances with 4 microphone positions each to get it work properly without voice drops.

  • I've been able to replicate this same Leg-Soft-Vib bug.  When I open up the CPU Meter while trying this, it flashes red with a little disk icon, yet the meter/peak is at 2-3% on my machine.

Prodamu, do you get the same flashing when you open the CPU meter?

  • Yes, the CPU meter starts to flash red when the first voice drops and ends when all the voices are dropped.

Now I get this bug with the Legato-Vib patch too. Not only the soft version. 😔

    Hi,

Which Preload size are you using? Streaming 9 microphones with runs (and maybe even Velocity XFade on) is very demanding for the system.

Which SSD drive are you using and how is it connected?

Which results do you get when running apps like Amorphous Disk Mark?

Find my results attached, for comparison. 4K reading is most important.,

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I don't think my system is the limitation. I have a powerful slave computer dedicated to the Synchron libraries with Intel Xeon E5-2620 v4 (8 core 2,1 GHz), 128 GB RAM and a SSD raid configuration (6 pieces of Samsung 850 Pro 512GB 2.5" Serial ATA-600 in raid 0). Wouldn't it be enough?

My master computer is a mac, but my Synchron-slave is a Windows 10 system so I cannot run the mac-software you linked to measure the disc speed. Do you have any suggestion for Windows?

However, regarding runs the only problem is the voice limit of maximum 1024 in Synchron Player. If I keep the speed of the runs down to not exceed the 1024 voice limit it works fine. And if I use my workaround and split the microphone positions on two Synchron Player instances (4 microphone positions on each instance) it also works fine. No streaming problems! The problem is rather that Synchron Player simply wont allowd you to plays fast runs with 8 micophone positions. My system is not the limitation.

The problem with voice drops and flashing CPU meter does not occur when playing fast. It occurs when I play slowly, two or more notes in sequence with a legato patch. The first note is no problem, I can play it and sustain it without any problem. But when I play the second note, without any gap between the notes so the legato transition is trigged, I get the problem when I sustain the note. The voices of the different microphones drops one by one. As long as I not sustain the notes more than a few seconds it works fine. The problem occurs when sustain longer. But sometimes it works.

The preload size is 4096 and streaming threads 4. I don't think I have change those from default? But because this works fine when playing fast it should not be the problem. Should it? Do you suggest me to increase the preload size or streaming threads or both? Maximum streaming threads on this system is 16. I do not run any other software than Vienna Ensemble Pro 6, Synchron Player and Synchron Pianos on this system.

I will experiment a little with the preload size and streaming threads but I find it hard to see that it would be the problem when it works for faster phrases.

    Hi prodamu,

I googled that for you 😊, Crystal Disk Mark should be fine.

    But your system sounds solid.

Did you try to lower the release voice limit yet? That should help with fast runs, and of course higher preload sizes and buffer sizes will contribute to performance.

When using many microphones, Velocity Xfade will multiply the streaming count, so that will be another factor.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I have continued to try to figure out when I get this voice drop problem and it does not seem to be due to system resources. However, it seems to be when I exceed the Synchron Player Voice Limit (set to 1024) the problem of voice drops is initiated. When I start my template there is no problem sustaining the legato notes but if I play some quick legato runs, so that Voice Limte is exceeded a few times, the problems with mic voice drops begin.

The first note is no problem, I can play it and sustain it without any problem. But when I play the second note, without any gap between the notes so the legato transition is trigged, I get the problem when I sustain the note. The voices of the different microphones drops one by one as I described earlier.

So Synchron Player seems to handle the legato samples different (and incorrectly) after the voice limit is exceeded.

  • Hi Paul,
Have you tried to recreate this? Any solution in sight?

Three weeks have passed without feedback on either this or the support cases I've sent and expect feedback on (case 278666 and 279711). Are you guys in Vienna still on vacation?
