  • how to switch to a technique which is in a different register

    Hi,

I am using VSL solo voices, but my question also applies to other instruments.  I use Sibelius 7.1 for notation.  The breathe sounds in VI are located in a high register of the voice presets.  I can make them sound in Sibelius by writhing these hight notes.  However, I would like to notate them in a normal register (or even a one line staff), but apparently the 'breath' technique text, which is in the performance dicitionary of Sibelius, does not work.  Do I miss something to make the switch from singing to breath sounds ?
One workaround would be to write a 15ma line and hide it, but still that doesn't seem very neat.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks,

    Joris

  • Hello Joris!

If you just want to trigger the sounds without getting displayed in your score, I would simply write them in the second voice and hide this voice. It shouldn't matter much that you need lots of ledger lines or 15va symbols.

If you want the notes included in your score, I have two additional ideas that might be helpful for you.

    - You can shift the breathing patch down with the Octave and Semitone options in the Vienna Instruments player under Advanced.

    - You could add the breathing patch to one of the custom cells. For details on that, please see the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, page 20.

    Best regards,
