  • [SOLVED] moving Roompack data- no sound

After years of having MIR roompack data on one of my samples drive I decided to try placing in the same folder as the instrument library samples, keeping all VSL related items in one main folder. ( & keeping the installer’s path the same)

First off I’m wondering if it would be better keeping the roompacks & instrument libraries on separate drives for better performance or not much.

That brings me to my problem; when placing the mir packs to the new folder on the different samples drive the MIR channels no longer output sound.(I also tried a fresh install using installer)

I re-directed the roompack data folder in VEPro 6 / prefs. When opening my default project the Venues are there & loaded up as normal. The stage shows the correct placements but no sound.

When triggering midi I see the vu’s working in Kontakt’s outputs as well as the mixer channel in VEP but the sound isn’t getting through on the MIR channel. When I copy them back to the original folder they work fine again.

My question is do I need to setup all the channels over when moving the MIR roompacks or is there a setting I need to change in VEP to fix? Maybe it’s app data or registry related?..at a loss- thanks

  • MIR RoomPacks and Vienna Instruments will happily reside on the same drive. MIR doesn't rely on disk-streaming, so it won't do any harm performance-wise.

As long as you don't move the file called "default.vmi", you can put Vienna MIR Pro's impulse response data (i.e. all other *.vmi-files) anywhere you like. Just make that new file-path "known" to MIR in its Preferences (... which is what you did already, as it seems).

... other than that, there's nothing to take care of. After the next re-boot, everything should be working as expected.

If you're run into issues nontheless, please get in contact with support@vsl.co.at, including all steps necessary for reproduction, as many technical details as possible (OS, CPU, host application, driver- and software-versions), and a reference to this thread.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Dietz,

Yes, I have the path set correctly. I don't see any "default.vmi"in my folders. Where should this be located or do you mean 'default' as in the venue I selected?

  • There should be a file called "default.vmi" in the standard folder created by MIR Pro during it's installation. If you lost it for one reason or the other, just re-install MIR Pro. It contains lots of vital information the application needs for workling properly.

  • Found it, in Win. it's located in the Program Data vsl folder.

I was also able to get it to work properly. Although I did several restarts during this time I was working on this a cold boot seemed to be what was needed. After that it worked as I would expect & the audio output returned to normal.

I also moved my projects folder where I also save my channel presets & the like to yet another internal drive on my system & that disn't cause any issues whatsover.

Thanks again for your help.  After a hiatus I started working with my VSL programs again & am really enjoying it.

  • Great to hear that you're up and running again! I'll mark this thread as "solved" then. :-)
