  • Lessons I've learned...

Earlier this year, I released a digital album of orchestral music, entitled "Dawn of a New Era" by Dear Villain (my pseudonym). As a classical accordionist and composer of chamber/orchestral music, it was something out of my normal comfort zone to write cinematic music, but upon completing the project, I had a feeling this would be my most popular work to date. Boy, was I wrong! After more than 6 months "out there", I've sold precisely zero copies of the album through CD Baby. The only thing more frustrating than pouring your heart and soul in to a project that took several hundred hours to complete, is to discover at the end of it, not that you didn't earn a single dime for it, but that nobody has even listened to it.

When I write music, I do it first and foremost, for myself. But there comes a point when you actually would like others to enjoy it too 😊 So, I hope you'll enjoy the album, which I've put together in a playlist on youtube. Happy Holidays to all!

Dawn of a New Era Cinematic Orchestral Album

  • Dave I have listened to it and really like it -  excellent work!  I've had the same feeling also.  I basically am concluding there is simply so much music in the world now it is incredibly hard to get any attention...

  • There are some very nice tracks in the album. The midi-performances sound great. Was this all 100% VSL? I enjoyed listening.

  • Hi William and Paul.  Thanks for listening.  You two always have been supportive and a compliment from talented composers such as yourselves always means a great deal.

William:  I totally agree.  The irony of the internet where it concerns music, is that what initially gave a voice to those that would otherwise not be heard, has made it harder to get heard now than it would have been to be discovered by a record label or "the majors" back in the day.  I've often joked with friends that a person could start a blog, outlining horrendous crimes they'd committed, and likely be years before anyone discovered where they had "kept the bodies" so to speak...even if they tweeted out their crimes! lol

Paul:  the vast majority is VSL, save for a couple of instruments/synths.  Glad you enjoyed the tracks.  It's actually half the album, so if you're interested, the remaining tracks can be (gasp) purchased from the CD Baby link found on any of the youtube tracks.

    All the best,

    Dave
