  • Sibelius: crescendo and diminuendo from and to silence

    Hello,

I know a few threads are talking about this subject, but they are a little bit outdated (the last one is from 2013), so I made this new thread, I hope this is ok.

I’m trying to achieve a crescendo from silence in Sibelius for a flute: the only way to make it work is to use the cresc/dim Sibelius plugin with C11. I'm trying to find another quicker and easier way.
Usually with other VIs (NotePerformer, EWQL Symphonic Orchestra and EWQL Hollywood Orchestra) I’m using the expression text « ~silent Â» at the beginning at the hairpin.
Trying it with Sibelius and VSL and I can see that in VEPro CC11 is raising correctly from 0 but no sound is playing: do you have any explanation? Or did I forget something or did something wrong?

You can find my test files in the following location to help:

All the software used here (Sibelius 8.7, VSL Sibelius Soundsets, MIRx, VE PRO 6, VI Pro 2, Instruments Special Edition Complete) are up to date.

    Thanks for your answer(s)!

    Best regards,
    Gil.

  • Hello Gil!

As far as I know, Sibelius treats the dal niente hairpin just like a normal hairpin. I'm not sure about the "~silent" command, but it seems to me that a note where this command is attached simply doesn't get triggered.

I would simply add ppp to the place where the dal niente hairpin starts. Then you should get the desired effect. Of course you can hide the ppp expression.

    Best regards,
    Andi
