  • Now, beautiful live playback in Finale, but big problems in Audio file saves

    Hi all, and especially Andi,

Since I switched over to using the Vienna Event Plug-In instead of multiple instances of VE Pro in Finale, I am getting beautiful playback from within Finale. No stutters, hangs, nothing.

The new problem now is that my audio exports are really messed up. I am getting a lot of inexplicable stuck notes, along with some stuttering (though the stuttering is a minor problem - it's the stuck notes all over the place that's killing these exports).

Wondering if this points to any obvious issue? Again, I'm running latest versions of Finale 25 and Ve Pro 6 on a Macbook. At 16gb, my open Finale/VE Pro projects are landing at about 13gb (and Activity Monitor has always showed Finale playback to absolutely kill my CPU...it averages around 120% I'd say, but that was true even before when my audio exports were perfect).

  • Hello Daniel!

You are the second user to report such a problem with Finale 25 on Mac and VE Pro. As far as I can see, Finale 25 on Windows doesn't have this problem with VE Pro. As Finale is the only host software where such a problem occurs with VE Pro 6, it seems that it comes from the Finale audio export option. We can't find any reasons for it in our software.

As you have written, that Activity Monitor shows Finale to be using 120% CPU during export, you might want to try different settings in the VE Pro Preferences under General/Multiprocessing.

Also, does it make a difference if you raise the buffer multiplier in the VE Pro Server Interface plug-in(s)?

If this doesn't help, you can send your project to support@vsl.co.at and I will try to reproduce the problem.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi,

I'll note that this problem is new, I think, to version 25.4 for me. I was doing okay.

Meanwhile, the playback is better than ever. And if I record via a third-party application (I used Camtasia), I get a beautiful WAV. Inconvenient, but a beautiful workaround.

I will fiddle with thread and buffer settings before troubling you with my project. If I do end up sending to you, what exactly should I send? My template is mostly VSL these days, but I have a few third party libraries in the mix. Do I send you the Finale file and VE Pro server project file?

    Thanks!

  • Hello Daniel!

In case changes to the aforementioned options don't help, please send your Finale and VE Pro Server project.

    Best,
    Andi
