  • VSL and pre-cooked orchestras

    Hi,

As you know, there is a growing number of "pre-cooked" orchestras. I mean, orchestral virtual instruments where you just choose the mood, play a chord, and the software generates a full soundtrack. The most recent example is "The Orchestra" by Sonuscore/Best Service.

Couldn't this also be done with VSL? The multi-instrument cells you can create in VIPRO, together with the APP sequencer, should allow something similar. It would be funny, at least as a large scale "inspiration preset".

  • Of course you can do this in VSL. But you must "cook" most of it by yourself.

VSL is very powerful the "downside" (at least in the eyes of those who sale software for dummies) is that you must be ready to cope with the available power of VSL.

This "problem" reminds me a bit the history of native instruments which derived most of the products from the endless potential of their syntheziser construction kit "Reaktor" their very first and by far most powerful (but also most complex) product, including moduls to build up nearly everything Native Instruments has ever sold.

I dont think it would be necessary for VSL to start. selling "Usability" as a bunch of single products like those libraries with combined patches or those with building blocks for pattern sequencer. In fact all this is already possible in VSL if you want to and take yourself the time to programm your patches in this way.

Stilll I think it would be worth to streamline the current most powerful but more and more complex workflow to concentrate the attention of the user on his musical intentions and release him as much as possible from tedious work for the organisation of the incredible versatile sample content.
