Hello
Why does Dimension Brass Wagner Tuba stop at F1?
The range states it should go to Eb1. See here -> https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Wagner_tuba/Range
"The range of the tenor Wagner tuba in Bb is Eb1 – Bb5 (no transposition)."

Hello Peter,
Thanks for your interest! A set of Wagner Tubas comes with two F- and two Bb instruments. To achieve a good and convincing sound as a group of four players for all sampled patches, the range is different to the solo instrument description on our academy webpage.
I hope that helps,
Best, Michael
Hi Michael,
Yes I hear you. It would certainly make sense if the 4 players were mixed instruments. Not so clear why when 4 players of the same instrument can't get the low pitch to blend well. Escpecially since VSL isn't a live recording.
It is certainly a question I will ask those who play the instrument.
Too bad the Low Brass in Dimension Brass I range only goes down to A#1. I will have to use a different library than the Dimensions Brass to play this Wagner piece.
I seem to recall the presets for Dimensions Wagner Tubas have function keys overwriting the low notes on the instrument. I'll need to double check.
I just verified. The presets in Dimension Brass II Wagner Tuba does have notes overwritten by the X-axis function keys. Do you guys in VSL care? Or are the presets made to help us get familarize with the library and we the user should create our own? I see what you did. Function keys start on the C. Whether that is X,Y, other. The Tuba takes a whole lot of space and there is no room left other than starting on a non-C key which could possibly mess up other things.
I am a software developer by trade and seeing the low notes overwriten bugs me.
Hi SonicSonar,
I see that you are working with VI PRO, which lets you extend the range of each instrument 2 whole tones in each direction (see screenshot).
Does that help?
Our prestes are indeed designed to give you an overview of the instrument, and they are structured as consistent as possible. Many composers work with those presets, others create their own, it all depends on personal preferences.
Best,
Paul
