    When I put big orchestral works together (big as in full string stac and sus, all brass stac and sus, and perc.), I get a lot of audio break up. I thought maybe switching my sequencer to a different (yet slower) PC would fix it, but it made it worse (probably the slower part). Here are my PC specs :

    Gigastudio Machine (also running Perf. Tool for alternation and Hor-Legato)
    180 Gig Hard Drive < (Gigastudio is on this one along with sequencer and 50% of samples)
    30 Gig Hard Drive < (other 50% of samples)
    512 RAM
    1.3 Ghz AMD
    M-Audio Audiophile 2496

    Sequencer Machine (SONAR 4 Producer Edition)
    30 Gig Hard Drive < (just the sequencer)
    128 RAM (yeah, yeah I know, it's low)
    1.3 Ghz AMD
    SB Live

    Normally the music is ok before I start adding reverb, but once I add to each track, it breaks up like mad, mostly in the fast sections. Since I changed the sequencer to a different machine, and it ran worse, if I upgraded my Gigastudio Machine's RAM to say around, oh I dont know, 1.5g RAM, would it work better? More PC's? Better Processor? Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

    That´s actually a bit strange. So you´re running ONLY Midi on the slower machine?
    Mayby the hardware midiinterface takes so much CPU-cycles or interrupts that it blocks the PCI bus or something. Just speculating wild.

    It seems like you´re good advised with a faster processor. More Ram will nit necessarily help since the main effect will be "only" the ability to load more samples. But I don´t think it will affect your CPU performance. Only if it means that your OS is swapping quite a lot.
    I´m not an AMD expert. So is this 1.3GHz one of this processors which is named 1800 or something so it means a higher speed compared to Intel? The question is how outdated your board is. If it would be a 1.3GHz Intel you would preferably change not only the CPU, but also Motherboard and RAM type to go a real step faster.

    I may be wrong, but a Soundblaster Card is not what I would call a "proper" MIDI-interface. Maybe a dedicated interface could help. Is it possible for you to borrow one, just to rule out this suspicion?

    It might be from SB Live, and no, I dont know anyone who I could borrow one from. I'd have to buy one, but if that's the case, I might as well use 1 PC with everything on it. Like I said, the problem usually happens when I add the reverb to each instrument. In fact, sometimes my PC will shut down instantly when I try to remove a reverb (dont ask, I have no idea why).

    Then it sounds more like a audio-problem, not MIDI-related. Hm ... difficult to give a meaningful telediagnosis, in this case, sorry.

    Are you sending each track to the same reverb or assigning a separate reverb to each track? If it's the latter, that could be causing your computer to gag and make bad noises.

    If it's the former (and your computer isn't gagging with just one reverb), then perrhaps you're clipping your fx send bus internally. Does the problem go away when you mute the reverb return? It could also be the mix bus, and the reverb just adds enough straw to the camel's back to cause your problems.

    Try lowering levels until the problem goes away.

    Wait, you can make one reverb for all of them? I didn't know that lol [:)]. I selected each track and made a reverb for it. So by the end of the song, I had around 50% memory usage showing on Gigastudio program, and 100% on task manager. How do I go about making 1 reverb for all of them in Gigastudio 160?

    Rather than me type it all out, have a look at page 66 of your Getting Started Guide where it explains about auxiliary sends and busses.

    Ah, I probably should of read the manual before I jumped into it....heh, well that helps a lot. Thanks guys!

    they beat me to the punch, I had the same issue with my rig awhile back. Having more than 8 seperate reverbs active in gigastudio 2.5 at once would kill my system, probably less on yours since mine's running a bit faster.

    Even with the aux sends tho, make sure to check levels, you can clip the fx bus very easily as I've discovered.

    anyway, no new info there, just me postwhoreing. Hope you got everything working ^^b
