  • VEPro 6 (Server) - adding MIR

I have a previously existing VEPro Server template with 6 instances and several channels on each instance.

I am adding MIR Pro to this now by instantiating it as a plugin replacing the "Stereo Pan" area in the mixer.

The Instrument objects appear on the stage as normal, but I do not hear any sound. The sound goes into MIR Pro and doesn't come out. There must be some extra routing I need to do, but don't know how.

The first attached photo is playing with MIR active (no sound) and the second is with it bypassed (sound).

    How do I fix this?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

what does the Icon on MIR Pro's Venue look like? Is it positioned on a valid spot within the area covered by MIR's impulse responses? ... maybe you could attach a screenshot of MIR Pro's main GUI, too.

Apart from that: What are the latency values of your system (audio driver latency, VE Pro buffers, MIR Pro buffers) to?

    Kind regards,

Thanks, Dietz. I have attached three new images of the MIR Pro GUI, Venue, and Preferences.

My DAW (Logic) I/O Buffer is 256.

My VEP Server is set for 2 Buffers per instance. CPU is set to 1 core per instance (I have a 6-core processor)

MIR Pro latency is set to 256. Impulse Response Cache is 2.0

As far as latency in general everything is working very well until I engage MIR Pro and then total silence.

I notice that at the bottom of the "Venue Select" window there is an output setting of "Out 1 / Out 2." Like many systems I do not have those assigned. Anyway, I changed it to "Out 3 / Out 4" (which ARE assigned in my system) and loaded the venue, but it did not fix the problem.

I am also curious about the "Disable VST MIR Plugins" preference. This slave computer is a PC so I assumed that the available MIR plugin was the VST version. Anyway, I unchecked it and restarted and it made no difference.

  • From the distance everything looks fine. :-/ The output selector in the Venue Selection window is for the pre-rendered audio previews of each Venue, so the chosen value makes no difference for individual instruments. (... you _do_ close the Selection Window, don't you?)

Just for ruling out actually unrelated issues:

    - Does it help to increase MIR Pro's own latency, e.g. to 512 samples?

    - Does it help when you disable the option for "Dynamic Processing" in MIR Pro's Preferences?

    - Does this also happen with other MIR Venues?

    - Does this also happen when using other signal sources than Kontakt?

    - When you start VE Pro stand-alone (leaving Logic out of the equation) - do you encounter the same problem?

This option is just here to avoid confusion between the full-blown, VE Pro-based version of MIR Pro, and its slightly dumbed-down VST/AU plug-in version. In advanced scenarios, using the VST version instead of the "built-in" one allows for one single MIR GUI being used accross several VE Pro projects (on the same system), that's why it's possible to make it available for VE Pro.

... this is not related to the issue you encounter.

Everything else on your list checks out fine. When I troubleshooted the situation above I discovered that, in Preferences, VEP's audio outputs were set to SPDIF (which is unconnected). When I switched it to "Primary Sound Driver" I heard sound - including the reverb through MIR Pro as expected. Success! However, in VEP SERVER, there is no "Audio/MIDI" preference - presumably because it is not using the host computer's audio system.

So the question becomes: Do I need to force MIR Pro (in VEP Server) to see the correct audio system. If so, how?

I assume in a Server situation MIR Pro should automatically route wet audio through the same outputs as the channel to which it is applied (i.e. "inline") - like a normal plugin.

Here is another random question: I own MIR Pro 24. Is using it in a server situation limited in some way?

The underlying engines of MIR Pro and MIR Pro 24 are identical. There are no other limitations than the obvious maximum of 24 instances.

  • SOLVED!

VE Pro --> Instance --> Vienna MIR Pro --> Reset

    All good. Yay.
