  • [SOLVED] elicenser misbehaving

    Windows 10

    I have 2 dongles

#1 has VePro and Vienna Instrument license on it

#2 has Epic Orchestra VePro, and Vienna Instrument license on it

I recently moved it all to a single new computer with a large internal ssd. I only needed to use dongle #2 but I was confused about which was which and ended up with them both in but everything working fine.

Now a few months later I want that USB port back and I take a guess and pull a dongle out.

Later I realized Epic Orchestra was not loading. I check the elicenser control center and indeed Epic Orchestra is not among the licenses. I try putting the dongle back the way it was. No change

I try just the #2 dongle. No licenses show in the ECC.

I try the # 2 dongle back in the old computer before migration. ECC verifies it has the 3 licenses I need.

I go back to the new computer and download the latest ECC. It still reads no licenses from the #2 dongle.

    I reboot. No help.

I've run the maintenance and synchronizer thing many times throughout the process. And somewhere along the line I tried both dongles again in the one computer.

  • Thought I had a clever Idea...

I put both dongles back in the old computer and transferred the epic orchestra license to the dongle that new computer could read. Guess what? Now that elicenser does not show up.

After some more head scratching I tried a different USB port.

That was the problem. It was on a USB3 port.

  • Hi jazzylee,

Thanks for reporting. Indeed, sometimes switching USB ports helps, and USB3 can be tricky with copy protection devices.
