  • Difference between legato expression in appass. and dimension strings

    Hi to vsl,

In the appassionata strings manual the patch information for this one:

    02 VI-20_perf-legato_4vel Samples: 1504 RAM: 94 MB Level 2
    Legato/portamento, 4 velocity sustains
    Monophonic
4 velocity layers: Legato: 0–88 mp; 89–127 mf
    Portamento: 0–88 p; 89–127 f
    Sustains: 0–55 p; 56–88 mp; 89–108 mf; 109–127 f

Shows that there is legato 2 velocity layers, that blend into 4 velocity layers of sustains.

It's an expressive patch, but I noticed that when using the Vienna Audition program, and when I was playing the 4 layers of legato patches in the Dimension Strings, that the expression seemed to be definitely better than the 2 layers of legato velocity levels in the other vsl string libraries.

Is this an imagined thing in regard to my hearing? I've tried combining the above 02 VI-20_perf-legato_4vel Samples with the Violin solo 2 4 legato level patch together, and there is quite a nice effect, and more detailed expression, that I believe comes from the added Violin Solo 2 Patch.

Can anyone who has dimension string violins and the appassionatas, please tell me if there is a difference between the 02 VI-20_perf-legato_4vel Samples  and the 4 velocity level legato's in the dimension strings, in that which patch has the ability to sound more "expressive" than the other?

thanks if someone has any observations to share here.

    best,

    Steve
