  • Certain portamento intervals too soft

    Hi everyone,

Chamber strings: I love it, it's the best, but there's one thing that really annoys me. In the portamento patches, certain intervals result in a softer "target" note than others.

    Try this:

    1. Load in a Vi-6-Perf-Portamento

    2. Play a C5 and then a G5 (causing the portamento)

    3. Now play a D5 to a G5. The G5 is louder in this case (actually the "right" volume).

The way I fix this: by bumping up the velocity XF for that softer target note, of automate the volume for that particular track if the velocity FX is already at maximum. Of course this is not an ideal solution. How do you guys deal with these situations?

  • Are you just using the portamento patch?

I'm not sure if this would solve your problem but when I use portamento I usually start with a performance legato then keyswitch to portamento before the second note.

    So to use your example:

Play the C5 as a performance legato, as the note plays, keyswitch to portamento for the G5.

Then switch back to performance legato for the D5, as the note plays, keyswitch to portamento for the G5.

    Does that help?

  • Hey Jason, thanks for your reply... that's actually a great tip. And I find it's even better if you start with just the portamento patch instead of the legato patch. Still, the portamento patch is much quieter compared to other patches, but that can be fixed by adjusting the volume.

  • It would be nice if this was fixed in an update of the library.
