  • Xeon & i7 comarison

    Hi,

Just comparing two CPU's - i7 6800k & £420+ approx and Intel Xeon E5-2620 V4 £425.  The Xeon has the higher benchmark on Intel vs AMD Hi end.

I'm sure some people on here must have a good idea on the Xeon but it's caught my eye as interesting

    Xeon E5 2620

    # of Cores 8
    # of Threads 16
    Processor Base Frequency 2.10 GHz
    Max Turbo Frequency 3.00 GHz
    Cache 20 MB SmartCache

     i7 6800k

    # of Cores 6
    # of Threads 12
    Processor Base Frequency 3.40 GHz
    Max Turbo Frequency 3.60 GHz
    Cache 15 MB

Am I correct to think that the Xeon here would be better at the tasks of dealing with DAW's and VSTi & network LAN?

On Intel vs AMD high end the Xeon scores over 3000 points more.  I'm no PC expert but I'm improving and building myself which is progress and sourcing etc.... to get a better job done I hope.

I'd be interested to read your comments but either way I'm a bit of an Intel fan boy now whether it's i7 or Xeon but I've not yet bought a Xeon but this could be the first!

    Any comments?

    Hi Cyril,

Asus have a consumer server board which can house two CPU's.  My initial post was asking about the Xeons in relation to the i7's and referencing the E5-2620 v4.

Normally you cannot put two I7 on a board as they do not have the channel to share tasks
