  • Impact of Suite Effects on CPU in VE vs. Logic

I'm working with three busses for close, medium, and far reverb processing. I am comparing these to MIR on the same strip, alternately bypassing Convolution Reverb or MIR.

At the same time, using a completely different approach, I can put Vienna Suite plug-ins directly into Logic channel strips. In this case, I assign VE channels to output to the VE Master Bus, which uses only slight compression and limiting.

So, in this last case, I am side-stepping the far, medium, and close busses within VE altogether.

Question 1: From a CPU standpoint, do Vienna Suite plug-ins take more or less power when they are resident in Vienna Ensemble, compared to hosting them in Logic channel strips?

Question 2: If the three busses seen above receive no signal, does it still require CPU power to keep them "at the ready?" If not, obviously, there no harm to keep them in the template. If so, decisions have to be made.

    Many thanks.

    1.  Assuming you're using VE as a plug in then you are only running it through one channel through your DAW.  In that case the allocation of resources is more efficient so it would consume less. (I think that's right)

    2. If you look down in the bottom right hand side of the VEP GUI there is a meter in percentage telling you how much CPU VEP is sucking up.  Whenever I add effects I notice that number ticks up a little, then it ticks up 5 to 10 percent when I start plying stuff.  I don't have MIR but I understand it's more CPU intensive.
