Hi,
I'm using Vienna Ensemble Pro 5. I have a 2013 Mac Pro 3.5 6 core. I'm Connecting over a Gigabit Cable to a 2009 Mac Pro 2.26 8-core. I'm able to set my buffer to 256 and the plugin's additional latency to 2 and get playback without artifacts. Any lower than that and playback is not good. Currently, I'm prefering to mix in Vienna. I'm only bringing 1 stereo stem back into Logic Pro X. The 2009 Mac Pro has 64 GB of RAM. For my samples, I have 3 SSD drives in RAID 0 in the SATA slots, however I'm planning to get PCIe SSD adapters if I decide to keep using this compter as my sampler.
My question is, would I be able to get to a lower I/O setting if I were to use a 10 Gigabit network? I prefer 128 or 64. I'm not sure if there are 10GB PCI cards avaialble for the 2009 Mac Pro, But I'm also considering getting a custom audio PC and a Thunderbolt to 10GB Ethernet adapter for my 2013 Mac Pro. I may also just get a 2nd 2013 Mac Pro.
I'm not sure whether the dropouts I'm experiencing are due to the Gigabit network, or the 2.26 processor in the 2009 Mac Pro.
I'm running Hollywood Strings and Brass on the 2009 with all of the sections, solo brass and divisi strings loaded in the template.
2nd question:
My offline bounces are quite a bit slower when I'm connected to the 2nd computer. When I'm working entirely on the new Mac Pro, bouncing is really almost instant (5 seconds maybe for a 1 minute piece). More like 15 or 20 with VEP on the 2nd computer. Again, would I be able to get faster bounce times with a better 2nd computer and/or a 10GB network?
Thanks in advance!!
