  • Sib Articulations not triggering Solo Strings

Help me Andi before I throw the laptop out the window.

The Sib7.1.3. string quartet score worked fine with SE.  But now that I put it into Solo Strings none of the articulations work right.  I downloaded and install the Sound Set program and imported it many times.  I have an instance of the quartet set to VE Strings. I used auto in the Sib mixer and it correctly set the channels.  But when it plays, none of the techniques work right.  In VE, I chose the Pro 2 Basic matrix and enable the top row and first column.  But on playback, the only movement of the Matrixes is between sta and detS. Now longer notes or pizz.

  • Even though the manual says to use VE Strings as the sound set, I found that if I use the Special Ed sound set it works much better.  The dynamics are too wide.  I have only used it for a few hours today, I did mange to clue in to copying the pizz matrix into the trem matrix that Sib was using.

  • After 12 hours straight and a bad case of numb bum, I think that I am figuring things out.  I orginally was looking for a preset that I could access for Sib, but there is not one.  I took the approach of what can I do in a copy and paste environment and made my own.  I am using the Sp Ed sound set in Sib as I could not get the VE Strings to work.  After making my own setup the dynamic problems took care of themselves

I still wish that the sound was warmer, but I can work with Solo Strings until they come out.

  • Hello Mark!

In order to use the Solo Strings Instrument collection with Sibelius, you will need the sound set VE Strings and the VI Presets for Sibelius that come with the VSL Soundset Installer. These presets can be found in the Vienna Instruments (Pro) player under PRESET/Sibelius.

  • All is well. Andi.

Although I had the sound set installed in Sibelius, I was not accessing in correctly in VEP.  All is corrected now.

I do not regret the time I spent tried to get SP Ed soundset working correctly.  I learned a lot about how VEP works.  It is unnessary now, but good to know to appreciate the complexity of the VEP software.
