I posted this under general and hardware issues thread, but I haven't received any replies.  I thought maybe this thread might reach more people who might have a solution.  Here is my post

This is probably operator error, but my midi ports don't always work.  I can always select midi port 1 and have it function, but when i select midi port 2 through 8, it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.  I can't figure out what is different.  I will open my project, the same project,  and sometimes I can use all the ports and sometimes only 1.  Most often I can only use midi port 1.  I just upgraded to Cubase 8 Pro and didn't have issues with previous versions.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks

  • Hello dbrown100!

MIDI ports higher than 1 can only be addressed with VST3-plugins. Maybe you have not always used this plugin version.

    Best regards,

  • Thanks Andi,

I knew that i had used more than 16 channels at a time before I upgraded to Cubase 8, but I forgot that i just opened another instance of the Vienna Ensemble to accomplish that task.  When I saw that you could open another port from the drop down window, I assumed that's how I had done it before (it's been awhile)  thanks again
