  • .... does this mean that when using Vienna soundset + house style with Sibelius 6.2 all the notes of a chord for example are automatically divided to 3 or 4 players? Or does this need the Vienna instruments PRO player? Anyway: "stupid" question maybe, but is it also possible to get more than 4 french horns? like 8? and what are the ranges for each instrument? Thanks. -Anssi

  • Hi Anssi!

Yes, dividing chords to three or four players automatically is possible. As you have already assumed, you will need VI PRO for that. The normal "VI" doesn't have the "Voice" feature for auto-divisi. However, it's possible to notate every voice on a seperate staff.

Of course you can load all players more than once. Then you can have as many horns, as you want. For fat unison horn lines, I would recommend our Epic Horns. We recorded eight horns for that product. These are available in the Brass II collection or as a single download instrument.

Here are the recorded ranges of the Dimension Brass:
    Dimension Horns: B1-D5
    Dimension Trumpets: E3-C6
    Dimension Trombones: E2-C5
Dimension Low Brass: B1-C4 (Bass Trombone and Tuba sounding an octave lower)

  • Hello Andi, Thanks for the reply. Are there any pedal tones sampled? Anyway without VI Pro and when using with Sibelius; it seems not to be anything "extraordinary" as it loses the automation on one stave. Perhaps VSL could sell a bundle: Dimension brass and VI PRO... as this new library seems to have "full" potential only with PRO player..... although: what do i know (?) Thanks. -Anssi

  • Hello Anssi!

If you use our introductory offer and buy Dimension Brass until February 15th 2011, you save EUR100 / $120. That's almost the price of VI Pro. ;-)

    Pedal tones are not included.

  •  How intelligent is VI Pro in working out which note of the chord to assign to which sound. I had assumed it is on first in sequential basis, in the case of 4 trumpets, it doesn't really matter which note in the 4 note chord goes to each trumpet, but in the trombone/bass trombone/tuba, the lowest note has to go to the tuba, so what happens if the chord notes all happen at the same time (as they would when stepping in for Sibelius), is the trick to move the note a few ticks to ensure the order? (easy in Cubase, not sure how you do this in Sibelius though).

  • Hello Andy!

You are right, that VI Pro assigns the voices sequentially. You can make your own order on the Voices page of VI Pro. When notes are written at the same time, it depends on Sibelius which one is sent first. To go for sure, which one gets sent first, you can manipulate the Properties/Playback/Live start position value in Sibelius.

Btw. The new version of the VE Woodwinds+Brass sound set and the new House Style are now online.

  • Ah yes.... :) but after the introductory offer (?) Best regards. -Anssi

  • Sorry, but there is no such bundle planned at the moment. You could try it with VI and VI Pro demo first and then decide, if you want to purchase VI Pro additionally.

  • Hello, Ok. Thanks for the answers. Best regards. -Anssi

  • I am unable to get notes above above C4 to play in Sibelius 7.5.1 for Dimension Brass Trombones.  The notation doe not indicate the notes are out of range.  And VI Pro itself, in the keyboard shows a range up to C5, and playing the graphical keyboard on VIpro with the mouse produces the sounds.

    I have the "Sibelius-Woodwinds+Brass 2.1-Dimension Brass-Dimension Trombones-VI Pro Presets-Sib_DimBr_4_Trombones_PRO" preset loaded.

I have tried different Technique commands, and they seem to make no difference, e.g., "a4" "1." "div."

So for some reason, the notated pitches are not coming through -- Silence above C4!

  • Hello Steve!

I can't reproduce this problem here. Can you take a look at the Vienna Instruments player during playback in order to see what is happening exactly? Can you see white keys pressed above C4? Could it be that you have the "Optimize" function of VI Pro turned on and have excluded samples this way?

    Best regards,
    Andi

I couldn't either!  Go figure.  Today, I went back and it seemed to be working again.  I will check the optimized, learn situation the next time this happens.  This was a first for me.  Very odd.

On a different, but related topic:  would it be possible, the next time the VSL Suite comes out with the various plug-ins, such as Compressor, would it be possible to have the interface that pops up indicate WHICH plug in has been loaded?  At present, you load a plug-in and are never quite sure what is there.  Also, when you are looking at the mixer, you cannot tell whether you have made a mistake, which might happen, z. B.,  if you copy over a plug-in from one channel to the other, using Alt-Click -- a big time saver.

Thanks for looking at my issue.

    Steve
