    I have a project with 24+ instruments, which means this many midi channels when I use VE Pro. One thing I am noticing is that I get these audible ASIO spikes which I wouldn't get if I was using my Cubase 8 Pro/MIR Pro as a VST. There are times I don't get any spikes when I open the project, but other times it happens often. So it happens intermintently. My system is powerful enough: A dual Xeon CPU (3.1Ghz) with 64 GB of ram. How can I eliminate these spikes or minimize them? My buffer is 2048 for MIR Pro and my audio card.

    Hi, 

    Did you try different thread settings in the VE PRO Server Preferences yet?

    Yes, I've been using the max value of 32. I have two CPUs (with eight cores each), but with hyper threading I get 32 total. Maybe I should reduce this value to 16?

    Having a higher buffer seems to make things better. 2048 for sound driver and 2048 for MIR Pro.

    HI Nektarios, 

    Are you maybe using the Cubase ASIO guard?

    In any case, please switch it off for Vienna Ensemble PRO: 

    [Menu] > Devices > Plug-in Manager > VST Instruments > Vienna Ensemble Pro > Click "i" for Plug-in information > Click to set ASIO Guard to Inactive. 

    Please perform this operation on ALL VEPro Instrument and Fx plugins. Then also Audio Input plugins will work properly.

    I did as you directed, although my ASIO guard (the general check box) was always off so I am not sure if this would have an impact.

    The good news, I believe I found the issue. It seems to be related to my hardware synth the Virus TI which is connected through USB. When I turn it off there are no spikes at all. I even lower the buffer, and still no spikes.

    It appears to be a bug with Cubase and USB devices running under Windows 7. You get these predictable periodic spikes. I'm seeing in the Cubase forums, others are having the same issue.

    So for now, I'll make sure my Virus TI is turned off when working with VSL project.

    This issue poped its head again. It seems Cubase 8 related for sure. Actually Cubase + USB. Since I have other devices connected to my workstation, it appears that if some USB ports are selected durring startup it cause this ASIO spike. Otherwise, there are no spikes even at 128 buffer. I have sent a message to Cubase support. Will keep you posted.

    nektarios - I had similar issues with USB causing ASIO spikes.  Using Steinberg's Power Scheme helped me on my Windows 8 / Cubase 8 setup.  I'm using a buffer of 512.
