As a first approximation, what do you think of controlling velocity cross-fade with....wait for it....velocity!?
So take the typical jump from 88 to 89 in a two sample patch that some may find to be harsh. If we turn on velocity cross fade and set it to be controlled by note velocity, then shouldn't that average out the samples pretty well?
Is there something wrong with this approach? If not, then how come I have never seen it mentioned? Here I'm thinking mostly about staccato patches. I see that it obviously wouldn't work for legato and sustained patches. But for short note where we just want to tame some harshness, it seems like a pretty simple way to go.
Thanks
