  • Sforzato and Sforzatissimo Articulations. What's the difference?

Can someone explain to me what sforzato are sforzatissimo articulations are and what the difference between the two is? I haven't been able to find my answer in the web.

    Thank you!

  • Linguistically the suffix -issimo indicates 'more so'. (-ississimo the next level.) More sforzato than regular sforzato.

  • Thanks! And what is sforzato exactly? Compared to marcatto and detache?

  • 'with force'; a vigorous initial attack; typically here with a sustain portion that is relatively tame.

  • Hi,

When you compare the 2 articulations it should be quite obvious: sforzato has a short and strong attack, sforzatissimo has a longer strong attack.

  • Thank you guys. I see now. I just wish I could hear some piece of music where these articulations are used.
