    I am having dynamic issues.  The solo voices are extremely soft.  When I play them through the instance keyboard or the score.  I have checked the velocity settings, volume, etc.   All slots and configurations seem ok.  It is almost as if they are muted.  Any advice?

    By loading the pre-set solo voices, I am getting a much more substantial sound.  When I loaded the matrix or single patches, it was just about in-audible.

    I'm not sure which matrices or presets you have loaded. For use with Sibelius, please load the VI presets that have been installed to the Sibelius/Choir 1.1/Solo Voices folder.

    Following up on your response to John, am I correct in assuming that the controller for expression should be set to none, and that Velocity X-Fade should use the C11 controller and be "on"? This is what you have advised for sustaining orchestral instruments.

    I personally would use the Solo Voices without Velocity X-Fade and only turn it on temporarily with a MIDI command, when I need it. That's why the VI presets are saved with Velocity X-Fade turned off. CC11 is already assigned to Velocity X-Fade and CC12 is assigned to Expression. You can leave it like that regardless if you want to use Velocity X-Fade or not.

    I just freshly loaded the Soprano solo voice preset, and the Velocity X-Fade is assigned to CC2 and Expression to CC11. Assigning CC11 to Expression is the norm for Sibelius, so I don't know if the preset was adjusted for Sibelius, or if the presets are different from what you stated?

    If I load the Choir soprano preset, Expression is assigned to CC11 as well, and Velocity X-Fade is not assigned at all. Do you recommend not using Velocity X-Fade for choir voices as well?

    It seems to me that you didn't load the VI presets made for Sibelius and the sound sets then. These VI presets can be loaded under PRESET/Sibelius/Choir 1.1.

    The choir can be used with and without Velocity X-Fade. If you want to make dynamic transitions in Sibelius, you will need it turned on. It's turned on by default in the afforementioned VI presets.

    Ah ha!  I hadn't found that folder. Problem solved.

    Should I now be loading orchestral instruments from that Sibelius preset folder as my default?  I'm guessing you have set these presets up to work especially well with the Sibelius soundsets.

    There is one new controller showing up that I haven't seen before. This is the Dynamic Range Scaler assigned to CC30. It is set at midrange (63). I couldn't find anything on that in the new manuals.

    Two questions arise. I assume the that dymanic range used expands as you move toward 127, and vice versa. Is that correct? Second question: Can I use the same controller on the orchestral instruments, and would this be a good idea? 

    I plan to update to more powerfull equipment and move to MIR and perhaps dimension strings soon. Looking forward to that.

    Yes, the VI presets in the Sibelius folder were made for use with Sibelius and it is recommended to use them when you work with our samples and Sibelius.

    The Dynamic Range scaler is described in the Vienna Instruments manual on page 31. 63 is the default value. Higher values will make the dynamic range of the instrument higher and vice versa.

    If it's a good idea to use it is up to your ears. ;-)
