  • [SOLVED] Don't see Audio/MIDI settings in Preferences on slave PC

Sometimes when I organize sounds and build instances, I like to hear the playback directly through my slave PC. Right now I am not getting sound. I thought I remembered I needed to change a setting in the audio/midi preferences. Only to find out that the option is not there! Note at this particular moment, my master isn't connected to the slave (not sure if this makes a difference).

Is it normal for there to be no Audio/MIDI "tab" in the VE PRO preferences on the slave? I thought I had accessed it before.... Currently there's only a General icon (with the name Server instead of General), and a Plugins icon.

See pic for example of various icons: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/media/2012/11/Picture-1.jpg

Am I overlooking something?? Any steps to get playback directly on my slave PC would be appreciated!

Getting remote desktop setup going might be a future workaround.

    Thanks!

  • So, if your master is not connected to your slave, how are you getting MIDI to it?

    DG

  • @DG - You're right, no midi at the moment. But what I'm aiming for, or thought I had done before (but it could be just my imagination!), is say for example:

Create an instance on slave PC. Add a plugin like Kontakt. Drag/load up a patch in the Kontakt window. And "playback" or trigger the sounds using the keyboard inside Kontakt, via clicking the mouse. It's just a method to quickly go through sounds, and create/save instances/multis, without having the master connected, and a DAW session open....if it's even possible???

Another similiar example is:  I am able to open up the standalone version of Vienna Instruments, drag in a patch, and hear the sounds by clicking on the virtual keyboard inside. But perhaps this is an unfair comparison...apples and oranges...

    Thanks!

  • Nm solved!

I overlooked something as simple as the fact I was creating an VE Pro instance from a server. Hence there is no audio pref.

If I just open VE Pro standalone, the audio pref is present, and I am able to playback sounds directly on the slave PC. This is what I remembered doing....just forgot it's supposed to be standalone mode, and not from server mode!
