• MIR Pro Random Freezing Problem

    Hi,

My system spec is as follows:

Dell Precision M4800, i7-4800MQ (2.7GHz/3.48GHz), 24G Ram, AC Power with Maximum Performance config

    Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

System Drive - Intel SSD 530 180GB mSATA,

VSL library  - Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB (with the performance patch), internal

    Audio Interface - Steinberg UR44

Vienna Sortwares (VE Pro, VI Pro, MIR Pro, Vienna Suite) are up to date.

    1. Sibelius 7.5 + Vienna Ensembe Pro Server + MIR PRO - Idle

Every applications are launched and Dimension Strings is loaded. Cpu spikes to 100% and the system freezes.

    2. Sibelius 7.5 + Vienna Ensembe Pro Server + MIR PRO - Playback

While playing the cpu spikes randomly to 100% and the system freezes. Frequency and duration are totally random.

    3. Sibelius 7.5 + Vienna Ensembe Pro Server + Without MIR PRO - Playback

As you can see, without MIR Pro there is no problem what so ever.

    4. Lastly, Sibelius 7.5 + VI Pro (within the Sibelius)

    No Problem.

I am quite baffled as I didn't have this kind of problem before. Could it be the Dimension Strings?

    Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

  • Sorry to hear you're facing problems. I'm sure we can sort it out quickly.

Your screenshots don't show up here, though. - Please use a free image hosting service (or your own website) to make them available publicly. Alternatively you can send a message to , including the screenshots and as many technical details as possible (e.g. latency settings of your ASIO drivers and MIR PRO), as well as any provisions necessary to reroduce the issue.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks for the edit, I can see the screenshots now.

Please supply the latency/buffer settings you're using, these are the most decisive performance parameters.

    TIA,

  • I may have found the cause of the CPU spikes. Usually I leave the VE Pro window open in the background when I use the Sibelius. While testing various ASIO buffer settings, I accidently minimised the VE Pro window to the taskbar and all the CPU spikes suddenly disappeared. If I minimise or close the VE Pro window, there would be no spikes at all even in the extream(?) setting of 64 samples (5.22ms latency). I remember that in the past with some old version of VE Pro, I had to minimise or close the VE Pro window in order to prevent dropdouts. Maybe the newest version has the same problem? It is interesting that if I disable the MIR Pro function there would be no spikes even if I leave the VE Pro window open.

  • It seems as the graphic card or its drivers are part of the problem. Do you use an "unusual" monitoring setup, or did you disable full hardware acceleration for any reason?

In any case - I have already asked VSL's software engineer to keep an eye on this. Maybe they will chime in with further questions.

    Kind regards,
