  • Using Hybrid patches in MIR Pro Plugin with Miracle. Is my Cubase audio routing correct?

I am trying to use the hybrid patches in MIR Pro Plugin with Miracle. What I do is on each of my channels I add MIR Pro as an insert fx (adjusting settings) and then send this to a Miracle reverb bus. From the documentation I read that Miracle needs only the wet signal from MIR Pro if I'm going to use these hybrid patches. Is this the correct way to do this? Or do I need to do something different? Would appreciate some enlightment! Btw, I use Cubase 7.5.

    Thank you!

  • While MIRacle is based on a similar technical approach, it is not meant to actually _replace_ Vienna Suite's Hybrid Reverb. Much of HR's sound comes from the IRs used for the early reflection part. The same is true for MIRacle, of course, but due to the fact that the IRs are very different, the results will be, too.

You can send both the dry and the wet signals (derived from IRs) to the algorithmic reverb processor for that "hybrid" reverb approach. In fact, many presets of HR work this way, too. What I was trying to point out in the examples given in MIR Pro manual's Tutorial Section is that there's more than one way to skin a cat. ;-) ... With MIR Pro's plug-in version it is not easily possible to route the wet signal parts of MIR Pro to other destinations than the direct signal, though. You would need VE Pro as a host for MIR Pro to achieve that without quite involved work-arounds.*)

*) Sidenote: That's not us beeing greedy, but simply a restriction of all popular plug-in standards. ;-)

  •  Thank you Dietz. I see now. I almost always prefer a hybrid approach to my reverb setup (using algorithmic reverbs for the tail). I really like the MIR Pro manual -- great job, very well written!

So the early reflextions in HR, are they based on MIR? I honestly never understood why make another reverb like HR available when there is MIR and Miracle.

Thanks for the friendly words! Highly appreciated.

You are right that there are some technical intersections. But actually HR and MIR/MIRacle serve quite different purposes and (even more so) different approaches to mixing. HR is more your typical "reverb processor" (albeit a quite sophisticated one), serving conventional concepts of mixing. MIR Pro, on the other hand, suggests a whole new paradigm for the spatialization of audio signals, with an object-oriented, source-conscious, multi-IR-based approach.

That said, I have to add that MIRacle wasn't available before the release of MIR Pro. It didn't exist when legacy Vienna MIR (non-Pro) saw the light of day, five years ago. 😊

  • Thank you for the clarity! Very much appreciated. Placing the instruments on the stage is great -- love it. Since I am relatively new in this domain, are there any MIR presets of different instrument placements in an orchestra as starting point? I see you have venue presets (haven't used them yet).  Even though I have a general idea where to place the instruments, I always find myself wondering how close to the mic (in conductor position) I should put them as you have to place a group of violins vs each player individually.

I think you might like MIRx-Mode:
