  • Can I control VE's faders with cc messages?

Is there a way to control the volume faders in VE's mixer with cc messages? I know how to send cc 7 to VI instances in VE to change each instruments "Master Volume," but the changes aren't reflected on VE's faders.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • Yes you can, which is actually what I came on the forum to complain about, haha. There a feature called Automation mapping which allows you to assign CCs to any fader/knob inside of VEPro. I have another CC assigned to the Mixer faders because if you also use CC7 for them it will be affecting both the individual patch volume (kontakt, etc) and the VEPro mixer fader, so it'll be dropping the volume twice. The only annoying thing about this feature is that it is very time consuming to setup especially if you have huge templates going on. I wish there was a better way to assign the mapping. Maybe some smart options like ascending/descending/same or at least separating the Port, channel, and CC so that it's easier to assign them. Another good option would to be able to move around the assignments vertically in the window, because if you decide to skip some assignments and do them later, you can only add more from the bottom. It basically leaves organization out the window if you don't set it all from the beginning.

  • +1 for giving just a little more love to the automation mapper. It would be great if we could reorganize the list. I'm OK with the amount of time it takes to setup as it's no different than any other DAW/VI Host. There is an "automatic" assignment function but I'm not sure how it works. It doesn't give you all the parameters nor does it allow you to specify what parameter you want to assign (AFAIK). What I would like is 1) choose a parameter 2) choose a CC # 3) VEPro would match that parameter to that CC on all tracks on the matching channel.

Lots of love here for VEPro...

....but.... argh.... I've said it before and I'll say it again....

    ....last time, I promise :-).....

We absolutely NEED panning automation in MIR Pro in VEPro--- whether it creates audible artifacts or not. Every time I switch sessions that need a different panning I have to completely reload my template. I was recently working on a project that required me to switch sessions multiple times per day. It got so frustrating having to reload a different mix I ended up literally writing down the panning on a piece of paper, like I was in an analog studio. I totally get that they want VEPro/MIRPro to be a full mixing front end, but until panning is included it simply is not practical for people who need to work on multple projects on tight deadlines.

I heard there is an update scheduled for next year may allow us to do this. It can't come soon enough :-)

    Thanks!

  • I agree with mohurwitz.  MIRPro needs to allow automation of instrument placement.  I understand why it's disallowed, but I think a better solution to disabling it altogether is to simply have a warning pop-up window that states that there will be audible artifacts while moving.  Then have the option to not show the warning again on the pop-up window.

This would be a much better solution than forcing users to maintain multiple templates in situations where you just want to move some players around.

Is this only in VEPro? Currently I only have VE running on one machine. The reason I ask is because I do most of my work in Max, and it's much easier to simply use VE to adjust and monitor audio levels, then to have to run VE in a DAW just to do the same.

  • I just checked and unfortunately it does seem to be a VEPro only thing. It's not possible to just replace VE with VEPro in Max? They are pretty much the same, but with VEPro giving more functionality and LAN networking capabilities.

Thanks for checking! Yes, I could use VEPro, but I don't own it yet and really don't want to spend a few hundred dollars on it just to be able to adjust volume using cc messages. I plan on upgrading my studio early next year, and will probably get VEPro then.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

  • The automation in VE Pro 5 will control everything in every plugin hosted in it that the plugin exposes as a parameter to a host.
I didn't know until now CC worked, I'm using 'Host Automation'. It seems like I did get Kore to talk to it via MIDI but that could've been a dream.
