I'd like to put more memory in my 2009 Mac Pro (actually 8GB). It is the Quad 2.66GHz model, so I have 4 ram slots available. Maybe someone can help me to find the best solution.
1. Several sources point out that due to the triple-channel architecture one should best use 3 of the 4 banks, so using 8GB modules would result in a maximum amount of 24GB of memory. Is this really an issue when working with sample libraries? Would it cause noticeable performance issues when using all 4 banks, or would the larger amount of 32GB ram outweigh them?
2. Same question for the comparison between 2x16 vs. 3x8.
3. When comparing 1x16 plus 1x8 (using 2 slots) vs. 3x8, which both would give 24GB in total, the latter would not only make use of the recommended 3 slots but also have 3 identically sized modules. Would this be another advantage and would these advantage play any significant role when working with samples?
