  • Would a MIRx Pro be a good idea?

    I love using MIRx. It's very handy to use, but the inflexibility drives me mad sometimes. For example, it's not easy to set up a standard string quartet layout, or to position more than eight Dimension violins. I'd love a version of MIRx that allowed for more flexibility. I think it has a lot of potential other than as a cheaper alternative to the real thing, and I'd gladly pay more for an enhanced version. Even some extra general purpose presets would make a huge difference.

    thanks a lot for your suggestions! We will most definitely add new Venues to MIRx in the not so distant future, that's for sure.

    We don't have any plans for a "bigger" MIRx, though. The idea of MIRx was to keep it as simple as possible. More flexibility would ask for the whole underlying feature set of MIR Pro (... you can't just "add one or two features" like free positioning, because most functions depend on each other).

    Please keep in mind that MIR Pro 24 is available for less than 300,- Euro now, and that all MIRx-Venues you might own licenses for are deductible from the full-blown MIR Pro Venues. This makes for a nice upgrade path, I'd say! ;-)

  • I think MIRx makes a lot of sense for people who have until now shied away from the VSL world because they've possibly been told that in order to make those samples sound good, you have to be very proficient at mixing and that it isn't as "plug & play" like other libraries that are recorded in a huge hall, in situ, and sound "real" out of the box.

    Adding MIRx to a Special Edition volume fills exactly this void: plug it in and you have your ready-to-play full orchestra with all essential instruments and articulations at your fingertips. Everything sits in the place you expect it to without having to tweak anything at all. Everything's balanced, you have a nice natural sounding reverb you don't have to fuss around with, and all you have to do is play. It really makes the VSL world way more attractive for the crowd that would perhaps normally gravitate towards libraries like EWQLSO or the Project SAM stuff.

    That's obviously a great addition. But some additional features would indeed be nice. However, free positioning and all that is one of the key aspects of MIR, and I agree with Dietz that the great feature of MIRx is the simplicity and straight-forwardness.

    If there were any additional features to be added to MIRx, I think the greatest thing would be to be able to use your effect plugins and put touches to the dry samples before sending them through MIRx - like applying compression and EQ. Also, EQing MIRx itself could be a helpful feature. Perhaps something like that will be possible one day.

    Just to avoid confusion: There is a dedicated MIRx "Pre-EQ" available for each and every preset (similar to the "Characters" of MIR Pro). in addition, there's a dedicated EQ within Vienna Instruments Pro which is completely independent of the Pre-EQ.

    Thanks for your response. I understand that the idea is simplicity above all, and you don't want to change that, but I'd still pay for a few more general purpose solo positions [:D]

    I'm planning on buying MIR Pro 24 anyway, as I need it for Vienna Imperial, but I will probably still use MIRx for Dimension instruments (as they take up so many slots), and also on my laptop.
