  • Hello mplasse!

On Windows XP with Sibelius 6.2 the sound sets get installed to the following folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6

If you have old versions of the VSL sound sets in the folder C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Sounds, I recommend deleting them.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks! It works.

I have another problem: working with an old score I wrote with Sibelius 5, double notes in string parts play only one of them. VSL seems to play them in legato mode, though the notes are not slurred with any other. It worked correctly in Sib 5 and a 2010 soundset version (Solo Strings).

I have installed the library updates of 2011 and 2014, and the latest version or Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble. I have tried with one instance of Vienna Instrument by part, and then with an instance of Vienna Ensemble embedding all the parts. Both configurations give the same result.

    How can I correct this?

  • Hi Michel!

Such a problem can have different reasons. Do you have a "legato" Technique Text command somewhere earlier in this instrument? If you have adapted an earlier Playback Configuration with a discontinued sound set (Solo Strings), I recommend creating a new Playback Configuration with the VE Strings sound set instead. Also make sure to load the correct VI presets that come with the Soundset Installer. These presets can be found under PRESET/Sibelius/Strings 2.8/Solo Strings/SS I - standard

Additional help can be found in the Troubleshooting section of the "Optimzing Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Thank you Andi! I had not changed the preset location. With the one you indicate, it works now.

Thanks for the answer, and for your responsiveness!

  • Hello, I'v the same question about the lacation of Vienna Sound Set but in Mac. I installed  it but can see only two manuals only.

  • Hello Gukas!

The sound sets get installed in a hidden folder. You should be able to see them in the Sibelius Playback Devices menu in the sound set column.

    Best regards,

    Andi

  • Hello Andi,

the Sound Set which I can see in Play/Setup in Sibelius 7 is different to one of in VE_Optimizing_Sibelius_Playback Tutorial.

  • Which sound sets do you see or which sound set do you miss?

  • Hello Andy,

I missed Sound Set which is in your "Optimizing Sibelius Playback With Vienna Ensemble" on the 3-rd page. It lookes different of one I see when in Sibelius I open Play/Setup/Playback Devices. What I'm worrying about is that I failed to install your Sound Set because of some reson and open the old one. By the way I'v a problem with VE Pro 5 and can't open in Logic. Can it be the reason the Sound Set wasn't installed properly?

  • Hi Gukas!

In the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manaual, page 3, I can see the sound set "VE Special Edition PLUS". Amongst others this sound set should get installed by the VSL Soundset Installer. Anyway, as you don't have one of the Special Edition PLUS Volumes registered, this very sound set wouldn't be of much use for you. To be honest, I didn't yet understand your problem. What exactly looks different at your place? Can you send a screenshot to support [at] vsl [dot] co [dot] at  with a reference to your forum post?

The Sibelius sound sets have nothing to do with VE Pro opening in Logic or not. So this is a different problem. Make sure to install the latest version of Vienna Ensemble Pro 5. It can be downloaded here:
