  • Question regarding harmonics notations

Recently on a post , I find the VSL SE strings have only Artificial harmonics, therefore there is a way to write it : using diamond ♢+ the note relative to this effect, instead of the ° , but with cubase ° sound  artificial harmonics, which is , of course a mistake ...So, to give a score that can't be laughable by conductors what is the way to do ?

    Thank You .

  • Hello Pro-Arte!

I guess you are using the VST Expression Maps for the Special Edition PLUS, right?

Cubase isn't really prepared to play correctly written articficial harmonics as a human player would do. In order to achieve this, you can use the the following workaround.
    - In Vienna Instruments (Pro) select the harmonics staccato and harmoics sustain patches and move them one octave up. This can be done under Advanced/(Edit/)Octave.
    - In Cubase write the note as you want it to appear in the score plus a note a fourth higher. As you don't want the higher note to be played, set the velocity of this higher note to 0. So this workaround doesn't work with Velocity X-Fade turned on.
    - Select one of the harmonics articulations from the Cubase Articulations menu for the lower note. You can hide the added symbol by selecting it and then clicking on the "H" button.

  • Thank You Andi,

It is a pity that VSLSE haven't both Harmonics articulation, Natural and Artificial..

But who know, someday in a update [:)]

  • Our Solo Strings I Full and Chamber Strings I Full Instrument collections contain natural harmonics. [;)]
