  • Hi I'm new to VSL! Beginner sibelius questions

Hi, I'm a trained composer. I have used Sibelius since ver.2 I am comfortable with VST's and soundsets to a degree, but have a few VSL related questions. 1. Can I use Vienna Instruments (not pro) with two soundsets? (chamber strings and horn ensemble) Do I use a different port for each or do I need to load two instances? 2. If the horn ensemble is 4 parts (players) does that mean four part harmony is 16 players(timbrally)? 3. I understand how the playback dictionary creates patch changes, but I can't see how all articulations (for full Libraries) can be triggered from the pre-defined terms 4. Is it just me or is there alot of resampling in the extremes of the library. I also hear a lot of eq modifications on round robin notes rather than extra samples Thanks for your time! Terrence

  • Hello Terence (or Terrence)!

Here are the answers to your questions.

1.) Yes, you can use two (or more) sound sets with our instruments. Simply activate more than one instance of Vienna Ensemble and assign the according sound sets.

2.) Our Single Instrument Horn Ensemble is recorded with four players. If you write four voices, you will hear 16 players. Our Dimension Brass collections can be used divisi or in unison.

3.) If you haven't done so yet, I recommend installing the VSL Soundset Installer and checking out the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual and the VSL and Sibelius tutorial video. The manual includes a section on how to trigger the various articulations.

4.) We didn't fake samples. The highest note may be stretched by one half tone, but that's all. There are no EQed round robins.

    Best regards,
    Andi
