  • Dimension Strings Bass Question

Here's what may seem to be a very basic question:

I understand that bass parts sound one octave lower than written.  Does VLS account for this?  Do the basses sound an octave lower than the note played?  In other words, should I trnaspose all my notes on the bass staff an octave lower or were they sampled that way?

  • VSL Double Basses play at the actual pitch that you hear, so if you are working from a full score, you need to play them an octave lower than written

  • Hello mjmyers60!

All notation programs I know will do the transposition for Contrabass (or Doublebass) staves automatically. So you can write your Bass notes as you are used to and the correct pitch will be triggered.

    Best regards,

Looking into this further, but it seems that my notation program, Notion, does not transpose.

  • I'm not at the office today, so can't look it up, but I'm pretty sure that Notion also plays the Bass one octave lower than written.
