  • Accents and duration

I just downloaded the latest VE Pro5 and Sibelius soundsets. Everythings is working great with one exception. I am using Plus libraries and soundsets, and adding an accent with the +accent setting enabled causes some instruments to be played with short notes, and others with normal durations.

I noticed that in my old playback dictionary I had turned off the +accent change to deal with this. Is this a common issue? What I want is a harder (stung) attack, but not necessarily a louder sound throughout, but definitely the full duration (or nearly so). Any advice on the best way to achieve this with Sibelius and VSL?

  • Hello Randall!

Please make sure to use the "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style and the sound set "VE Special Edition PLUS" that come with the latest version of the VSL Soundset Installer.

In the Vienna Instruments load the Special Edition PLUS matrices.

Then the accents should work as expected.

  • Andi,

Rechecked and redownloaded the latest Soundsets, and I am using the VSL House Style and the VE SE Plus soundsets in the setup. As before, some instruments work (Ob., Cl., Bsn., Hn., etc.) and others don't (Fl., Tr., Cellos, Double Basses). In the case of the instruments that don't work, an accent mark seem to trigger an accented staccato, no matter what the duration. In one case the cello works correctly when a dynamic change occurs on the same note as the accent mark. Very puzzling.

I can work around this by eliminating the Sound ID +accent, but on the instruments that are working correctly, it is definitely the accent that I imagine. I have tried reloading the instruments that are not working correctly, but that doesn't change anything.

  • Hello Randall!

Please check the SlotX-Fader in the instruments where the accent doesn't work properly. It should be at 127. Maybe it is at 0 and the sus-slot in the b-cell is silent because of that.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Andi, Problem solved! Sounds terrific now. Exactly what I expect from an accent mark. Thanks.
