  • Dimension Strings not switching articulation in Sibelius

    Hi

I'm using Sibelius 7 with VE Pro5, and none of the Dimension Strings presets are changing articulations.

Both VE Pro and VI Pro are the latest versions and the house style and soundsets are up to date (1.0.37).

Under playback configuration I select VE Strings and the Dimension instruments, when creating a staff I select the corresponding Dimension instruments.

Articulations are not switching and the only patch that will sound is a default staccato, even when no articulation marks are entered in Sibelius.

    Any help is appreciated

    Adriaan

  • Hi Andi

Thank you so much for your help and quick response. The problem was that I was not loading the Sibelius Presets that came with the soundset.

    Everything is working great now.

    Thanks again

    Adriaan

  • (this is a copy of a message we did post on the forum of Sibelius, thank you kindly for your advise)

  • Hello N. L.

It can have different reasons why articulations do not change as supposed. Did you install the VSL Soundset installer and check out our "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual yet?
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

There is a chapter dedicated on how to set up the Dimension Strings and a Troubleshooting chapter.

If you can't find a solution there, please write in detail what you have tried, what your Playback Configuration looks like, which instruments you have loaded in Sibelius and which Sibelius version and OS you are using.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • thank you yes all manuals and info we could find we have been trying to follow in detail OS X 10.9.1 3,4 GHzIntel Core 15 24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 iMAC Sibelius 7.1.3 Configuration only active Vienna ensemble Pro Type AU Sound set VE strings Manuels Sound Set Channel 1 Dimension Violins Sound ID: string.violin.ensemble.dimension Channel 2 + 3 idem Channel 4 Violas Channel 5 Celli Track behaviour: when written solo he stays on solo and does not come back on Tutti. No sul tasto, no sul pont., no nat. or ord. Some tracks do not even respond on pizz and or arco. Also in lines, the standard Sibelius Glissando (straight) does not react in any way. All these commands react perfectly well when playing in Sibelius with Sibelius Sounds. We thought that perhaps the Technique text was case sensitive but can not find anything that indicates this in manuals. Of course House Style Vienna has been imported and in 'i' the Dimension strings have been chosen. We do not know what to do anymore. All required sounds are for sure available but Vienna does not seem to read the command from the (normally written) Sibelius-score. Best and thx 4 your time, N.

  • To switch back to tutti on the Cello, please wright "a6" if you have loaded the All Players preset.
Sul tasto, sul ponticello and glissando are not included with the Dimension Strings. So it is normal that these commands don't do anything.
The commands "ord." and "natural" should reset the Sound ID and therefore trigger the sustain patch. If "pizz" and "arco" don't work, it may have something to do with previous Sound ID changes that have not been reset. So an "ord." or "natural" before "pizz" might help.

  • Okay. Is there a full list somewhere with possible extra's (which are not normal musical signs or texts or indications) we have to add EXTRA in the Sibelius score to have Vienna following the score as written and to be compatible? The problem is that we woud like to transfer score's of more than 90 minutes to Vienna and we would very much like to find a way to do this in the most efficient way possible (if that is... eh possible at all). Merci, n

  • The full list of commands to change articulations can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius playback" manual.

Please notice that our software and sample collections cannot turn your scores into perfect sounding playbacks automatically. You will always have to put work into the finetuning.

    Best,
    Andi
