  • I need help !!! Vienna Dimension Strings versus Vienna Orchestral Strings

I guess this topic probably has been up already but unfortunately I did not find anything on the forum here. Time is running out and in less than four weeks the cut rate for the dimension strings will be gone ! I am not sure what to do but I can afford only one of the following products: go for the orchestral strings bundle or for the dimension strings bundle ... I am having already vipro and vepro with mir24 ... are there some guys out there having both ? what would you recommend to purchase ? thank you all for your upcoming statements on this topic ! cheers ! Matt :-)

  • One thing to consider if you are using MIR 24: the number of individual strings you would need from DS to create sections.  You would likely use up most of your 24 instances just for strings.  IMO, DS is better suited for use with the full MIR.  With the Orchestra Strings bundle, you could get by with as few as 5 instances for strings, leaving you many more options for your orchestral colors.

In the end, the answer to the "which is better" question really depends on what you intend to write.  If your interests are primarily in writing small chamber music pieces, than DS could well be the better option - or perhaps even Chamber Strings.  It all depends on what you want to do.

  • You could also consider using the MIRx extensions for VI Pro if you want to add extra instances of Dimension Strings to fatten up your string sections, albeit with less flexibility. I had to make a similar choice, but the extra realism of DS swung it for me -although it's a lot of work, it's great to become the player of each instrument as well as the conductor :)

  • thanks for your feedback guys ! I forgot to mention I already got MIRx ... so I guess I am going for the Dimension Strings then instead of the Orchestral Strings... I hope playing recording simply working with the Dimension Strings will not be too complicated... I already took a look at the videos and some reviews and somehow it made me hesitate as it really seems to be quite complicated using them ... but I will give it a try ! cheers matt :-)

  • DS can be simple or complicated. It all depends on how you like to work. However, unless you have SSD it is going to be a rocky road.
