  • Respighi: Ancient Airs and Dances Suite I, Movement II Gagliarda with MIRx

Second movement following up on first movement posted previously.

Enjoy, and as always feedback greatly appreciated.

  • Not that I'm any kind of authority in this but not too bad overall.  What library(s) ate you using?

I think the woodwinds in this suite you've posted sound nice.  The strings however sound thin and hollow.  Are you layering your strings?

Also, the quieter sections sound like you just turned the volume down rather then utilizing the velocity X fade.

I'm listening in my car via my smartphone so perhaps it's just the listening environment but this sounds like it's in need of some mastering.

Again, I'm no authority but not too shabby.

This is a test of the new MIRx functionality for MIR Pro, just to kick the tires, so to speak.  I'm in agreement with you, its value is as a starting point.  I'm working on completing the notation for this suite and then I'll take it all into another venue and remaster the whole kit and caboodle. (Actually I usually remaster in about 3 or 4 different venues; once the notation is complete it's easy pulling it into another venue with MIR Pro).

I use all VSL instruments on these recordings.  They definitely use the cross fade and dynamics for controlling volume, I don't adjust volume at all.  I think that SoundCloud compression plays some games with volume.  Best bet is to download the tracks.

  • I second the strings problem. Too thin and hollow - especially the violin.

However, again like the first poster, I have no authority [:)]
