  • VE PRO 5 midi ports and channels in relation to Finale 2012 channels and banks

Hello! I'm working with VE PRO 5, VI PRO 2 and Finale 2012. I'm writing a piece for big symphonic orchestra and I want to hear it with VSL sounds. Up until now I managed to do that using two instances - one for winds and timpani and one for strings and percussion. My problem is that in this way the instruments are "placed" in two different MIR-spaces (regardless of the fact that I use in both instances the same "hall"). My question is, since I can load all my instruments in a single instance and space, thanks to the multiple midi ports available in VE, is there a way to connect them with the two 16 midi channel sets (banks) in Finale? Thanks in advance!

  • Hello vesidrag!

You can load all instruments in the first VE Pro instance. Instead of loading a second VE Pro instance you can use the VE Pro Event Input. This way the instruments that trigger this output get routed to your VE Pro instance. Please notice that in addition to the MIDI channels you will also have to take care of MIDI ports in VE Pro. The instruments that you had in your first VE instance previously will need MIDI port 1. The other instruments will need the MIDI port that you set up in the VE Pro Event Input window.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you very much for the quick answer! I've just tried your suggestion with the VE Pro Event input. The problem now is that when I attempt to edit it (set it up), when I click the "assign" button, the field for "connected server interfaces" is absolutely empty, even though there are instances in the VE pro server. I even created an entirely new Finale project in order to start "clear", but unfortunately - same thing. Thanks again in advance!

  • Dumb question but the VE server is running correct?  And your VEPro instance is connected to the VE server correct?  That's the only way it will work.

  • Success! Thank you both very much! :)

  • You bet.  Glad you're in business.  The event input is in my estimation manditory for Finale users using MIR so as you stated all instruments are on the same stage.  Especially for those of us using MIRPro24.
