  • Hard Drives mixup

Hi All. I seem to have a problem:

In the last couple of days I made my first VSL purchases - Special EDition vol. 1/Tenor Sax/Upright Bass/Jazz Drums/Recorders.

Followed all download instructions & was happily auditioning all the great samples last night in Vienna Instruments - no problems.

This morning, when I turned V.I. on the sample libraries did not appear on the panel to my right & are nowhere to be seen!

After purchase I downloaded everything to an external Hard Drive, which appeared as (F:) Drive.

Today, it appears as (J:) Drive?

All samples & related data are in there, on the external HD, but the designated letter is now J instead of F.

I don't know why this has happened but I'm thinking that Vienna Instrument is looking in (F:) & cannot find them - because they are now in the (J:) drive.

Could anyone suggest how I can get back to how things were last night? I really don't know where to go from here.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, of course.

    Many thanks Guys.

  • Run Directory Manager (check the manual for details) and point VI to the correct drive and folder.

  •  Hi DG,

Thanks very much for the reply.

I found the Directory Manager & the samples files are listed there, under the original HD letter (F:) - but they are in red.

So I'm not sure why they appear under (J:) Drive when I look in START/Computer.

  • Did you remove all the folders from Directory Manager and enter them again?

    DG

  • Hi DG,

    I haven't done anything yet.

I'm a bit worried about losing or deleting these files & maybe having to buy them again.

What does removing & re-entering them achieve?

  • You want VI to find the files, you have to tell it where they are. Removing them from DM and adding them again means that VI now knows where they are. AFAIK this is all in the manual. Have you read it?

O.K. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that.

I am just printing off the Manuals now but haven't read them as yet.

I panicked because I thought I had screwed up & lost the files!

So in DM I hit 'REMOVE' button, but how do I restore the files? Hit 'RESCAN EXISTING'?

  • Click "add folder" and make sure this is the current location. Once you get the hang of it you will find that you can do all of this in less time than it is taking me to type this reply.  [;)]

  • O.K. Will give it a go.

    Many thanks DG, much appreciated.

  • O.K. That did it. All my samples are back & loaded in V.I.

Looking at the Manual, I think what caused the problem was my diconnecting the HD that I have all the samples on.

Missing folders (e.g., when a hard-drive is disconnected or the name/path has
changed) will be displayed in RED.

Oh well, you live & learn - one hopes!

Thanks very much, DG, for taking the time to help. Much appreciated.
