Overture 4 articulation changes

Before purchasing VSL SE, I have a question about using different articulations on a staff. Presently, I use Overture 4 for notation and GPO4 for my sound library. I assign the different articulations to different voices on the staff. For instance, if I have a 1st Violin staff, I indicate that track has 4 voices and assign legato, pizz, etc to the 4 voices. That way, without leaving the score window (not needing to access midi data, controllers, etc) I can just select the notes in the staff and assign them to the voice which has the articulation I need. I know that VSL uses a "matrix" system but, not being a midi-controller guy, can I just assign the VSL articulations the way I've been doing? Much appreciated for any advice. Pete

Hello Pete!

I don't know Overture, but if you can assign the different voices to different MIDI channels, it should pe possible to work the way you are used to. Nevertheless I want to mention that you might want to use more than four articualtions for an instrument. I guess you would have to add a second staff for such an instrument. Otherwise you will have to take care of keyswitches or MIDI CC data in order to change between articulations.

Cyril, I appreciate your response but can you be more specific? What do you mean by "VE" ? And where do I "set Overture for changing articulations?" I do not use a controller for composing- no midi input. I just "write" with the mouse directly on tostaves. I am trying to avoid having to modify/add data in the graphic window or use cumbersome keyswitches. If you are suggesting an easier way to go from one articulation to another than assigning notes to the different voices, as I've been doing with GPO, I am very much interested. I apologize for asking this question without yet being familiar with the workings of VSL. Thanks again, Pete

VE = Vienna Ensemble software

In VSL you change articulation with notes that out the instrument range. Look at the documentation.

I cannot help you with Ouverture, you need to read the documentation. The link I gave you show what you should be looking for

Placing notes out of the instrument's range is not a solution for me. They show in the score and are very confusing- I don't know why anyone would use that in a notation program. I believe that the way I have been doing it is the best way. I just want to be sure that VSL will allow me to do it the same way. In other words, can the different "articulations" be treated as different instruments, with their own midi channel? Pete

You did not get it ; you have do define the articulation of the score of Overture, so when you call an articulation it will send from C0 to B1 or C6 to B7

You will not have in the score those notes !

Cyril, I think I do "get it". I have been using Overture for 15 years. I do appreciate you trying to help. If I put those notes on the staff, they will be visible, even if they do not sound. I am just asking if VSL SE will allow me use the different articulations sounds into the different voices for an Overture staff so I can select the articulation I want by changing the voice assignment right there on the staff, not adding notes or adding midi data. You dont put those notes on the stave !

I will look further into it, thank you. The link you sent me is only the Home Page for the product. I have been there many times. I just received information that Overture does not have a VSL ready-to-go file that would allow me to assign articulations. For now I will use the method I currently use. Thanks again for responding. Then in the screen you will see at the end "key switch"

So for each articulation you must define VSL keyswitch !

You can also define Expression, Glissandos, Chord and Guitar Frames, and Symbols and Repeat

In Overture you go in :

File / Edit Library

and after you can set everything to fit VSL

You can even use IAC !! GREAT!!!

I just did a trial to open a large score, Overture is crashing in .mid and in .XML
