  • Issue with Sibelius Soundset

    Hi!

Is there any known solution to the issue that when using "playback when editing" in Sibelius it sometimes takes several seconds for a note to playback when clicking the notehead? When waiting for the playback the program is frozen, and this is VERY annoying when working with large scores in tight deadlines.

Several users have confirmed this issue, and it seems to exist on both Windows & Mac OS on all systems, versions, updates, etc, I've tried. This is Sibelius 7 we're talking about. Also it seems to not be a unique problem with VSL, but with manual soundsets in general.

    Best,

    Andreas

  • EDIT: It ALWAYS occurs when using the "Repeat Note" command on a single note (let's say you want to put 4 8:ths in a row, then I usually press the first pitch and then press the R-key on the keyboard for repeating the same note). This takes - with the VSL soundset - 1-2 seconds before the note is repeated, for every note.

  • Hello snattack!

I can't reproduce this problem with the latest Sibelius version (7.1.3) here, but I remember having it with a previous Sibelius 7 version. Maybe a simple update to the latest version will solve your problem.

Otherwise I would turn off the "Play notes as you edit" option. This can be done in the Sibelius menu File/Preferences/Note Input.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • The problem persists with Sibelius 7.1.3 (Mac OS 10.9 3)

For me, it only happens on the first note I am editing in a particular instrument. If I edit trumpet (say) it takes around 2 seconds before the note sounds and the edit appears. If I continue with trumpet, the problem goes away, but if I switch to horn (say) it comes back - just for the first note. Now if I go back to trumpet, the problem is back - but again, just for the first note. It also happens when switching articulations within one instrument.

The problem seems to be when switching sounds. Of course, I could turn of 'Play notes as you edit', but I really need this function.

It's really bad if you want to edit notes in a chord of a string section, for example, because every note in the chord is a different instrument, so each note has a 2 second pause. All these seconds add up!

Surely it must be fixable? After all, VI switches sounds and articulations very fast when actually playing, so how come it is so slow when editing?

  • Hello lewisap!

I can't reproduce this problem here. Maybe the Sibelius support team can help.
