  • percussion maps for finale 2012

hello there, anyone has an idea, why the percussion map doesn't work for my finale 2012. i downloaded the files from the "needful things" and installed them in the right folders (as it seems) but it still doesn't work.. i am using finale since a long time, but i am more and more getting fed up with these guys and it's really a waste of time to nerd around with all this stuff.. thinking about switching to sibelius! any advice?! thanks

  • I have I believe the same problem. I have just installed Finale 2012 on a fresh Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machine, with the Special Edition 1 percussion, Vienna Instruments and VEPro. The Directory: Windows Vista & Windows 7 Finale 2011: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2011\FinaleVST doesn't exist, closest I see is maybe C:\Users\W7-64\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012\VST Support and I placed the two text files here. The first problem I have is there aren't any options to select in the Percussion Input maps example: MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Percussion Input Maps. The Vienna Category is there but nothing to select for an Input map. I will continue to study the Finale User Manual related to Percussion Maps, but the text document included with the VSL Percussion maps zip folder doesn't appear to be updated for Finale 2012. Any help will be appreciated, I'd really like to get the Percussion Map working, much easier to build from there vs. starting from scratch. Thanks again, Todd

  • Hello Todd!

Please copy the file "VEinstruments.txt" to the following folder:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012\FinaleVST

... and the file "Vienna Special Edition Percussion for Finale.xml" to the following folder:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012\MIDI Device Annotation

If the FinaleVST folder doesn't esist, simply create it.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi for the reply! I hate to report though that it didn't work. I still only see the percussion map for Vienna that I created. It's not the end of the world if I don't get these to work, but it would be nice to try them out of the box. And, I'm not at all upset, it's not keeping me from working on the projects I'm working on. But if you have any other tricks to try I will. Thanks, Todd

  • Hi Todd!

I'm a bit confused now. How did you call your Percussion Map and where did you put it? Can you write down the exact paths and filenames, where you have put your files and the files provided from us?

There are no tricks necessary to make our Percussion Maps appear in Finale. They just have to be copied to the correct folder.

  • Hello Andi, To create my own Midi Map I clicked on the top Menu item MIDI/Audio --> Device Setup --> Edit Percussion MIDI Maps. At the MIDI Device Drop down I selected "Vienna Special edition Percussion for Finale", and then clicked the "NEW" button to create a new Percussion Midi Map. I only mapped a few items so far as to allow my score to play the Vienna sounds correctly, Bass Drum, Snare, that sort of thing. The Percussion I am using is the Special edition V1. As to where did I place the Vienna files? for the VEInstruments and VEPInstruments I placed them: C:\Users\W7-64\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012\FinaleVST I placed the XML file: C:\Users\W7-64\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2012\MIDI Device Annotation At this point the only selection available for the Vienna Special Edition for Percussion for Finale is the one I created. Thanks, Todd
