Greetings. I have been experimenting with VE Pro 5 and Pro Tools 11. Generally all is working OK. Have two high spec Windows 7 PCs, have latest version of PT11 and VE Pro 5.
The two PCs are connected via intranet (Ethernet box).
Prior to installing PT11 I was using PT10 with no problems whatsoever. I still have PT 10 installed and after installing PT11, I went back and ran PT10 to check everything works as expected (it does).
So, how does PT11 cope with VE Pro 5?
If I use VE Pro 5 on the same PC as PT11 then there is no difference (other than a general increase in performance and workflow).
If I use a slave PC to run my VE Pro 5 session I did come up with an issue that had me scratching head for some time. What I found was there were random pops and clicks during playing VE Pro 5 instruments and plugins. These clicks also existed when I was not playing sounds (but were less so). Upon recording and then during play back, the pops and clicks continued. I tried directly connecting the PCs (no Ethernet box) and also playing with the usual latency settings in the VE Pro 5 plugin (within Pro Tools) and also settings within VE Pro 5 on the slave. Nothing worked.
Remember: there are none of these issues when PT10 is the DAW (either directly on main PC or on slave). Also, no problems with PT11 when VE Pro 5 is running on the main PC. This only is a problem when using VE Pro 5 on a slave PC with PT11.
The solution. I noted on the PT11 playback engine that it was set to 256 samples (this is also the case on my PT10). Raising this to 1024 samples completely solved the problem (with no obvious reduction in system performance). What I do not get is that it works fine with PT10 at 256 samples, but pops on PT11. In addition, it also works without popping on PT11 IF VE Pro 5 is running on the same PC.
