  • Purchase Advice?

    Hi Guys,

I own Special Edition Vol. 1, Special Edition Vol. 2 (SE ext), Epic Orchestra Standard and the single instrument Flugelhorn.

Can someone suggest what to buy next if I wanted to to add fast legato's to what I already have?

Any other suggestions of what you would add to my VSL libraries as well?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Fast Legatos and Performance Trille (great for trills and VERY fast movements, also runs) are contained in the Extended Libraries of our Single Instrumemts and Instruments Collections.

All instruments in your Special Edition Vol 1&2 (except Appassionata Strings, Overdrive, Konzerthaus Organ, Concert Guitar and the Bösendorfer Piano) are available in their full version in the Symphonic Cube (you´ll get a great bundle price, saving 1730 EUROS, AND a discount, see "Your price").

If you are looking for more instruments, I´d definitely check out Special Edition Volume 3 (Appassionata Strings & Muted Strings)

and Volume 4 (Special Winds and Choir)

These collections are adding all the instruments that were not recorded when we released Vol 1&2.

A great and cheap addition on the software side: Vienna Instruments PRO. => Videos. Now on Special Offer (August 2013).

And of course the brand-new MIRx Venues will be a great addition.

=> Get FREE Demo licenses for both VI PRO and MIRx on the respective product pages (click "try").

And, because it´s often missed for some reason:

=> If you are looking for an incredible piano, check out the Vienna Imperial with up to 100 velocities per key (!!) => video.

=> The Dimension Strings are still on introductory offer. => Video

If you have any specific questions, you can also contact us directly at .

    Best,

    Paul

  • It is very difficult to make blanket suggestions in terms of "what to buy next", as many factors enter in.

In many ways, the "best" purchase will depend on your writing style(s), whether you are interested in writing traditional classical and or chamber music, or more towards the film scoring side of things.

As Paul said, do take a look at VI Pro.  As VI Pro includes the "stretch" fuction, it is possible to create faster legatos by using the stretch function to create new, modified, legato patches.

If you are interested in building your basic orchestral sections, the orchestra strings libraries, and woodwinds I would be a good place to start in terms of adding the full collections.  As the fast legatos are in the extended portion of the full libraries, you would need to buy full collections.  Of course, if you could afford the much larger collections, that would be more cost effective in the long run.

Another common approach among VSL users, is to get AP Strings as the first full library to go with previously purchased SE libraries.  Again, though, it depends on your desired writing style(s).

  • Thanks Noldar12 that was very helpful.  I do have VI Pro 2 but had not known about the strtch function in creating fast legatos.  Is there any documentation or videos specific to creating fast legatos with the stretch funtion? Woould love to try that out.

    Thanks!

    Dave

  • You will find the stretch function under the advanced tab.  You can vary any portion of the articulation you desire from 50-150% (some articulations work better than others).  Note that using the stretch function will create a new articulation, and that new articulation will use up some RAM.

  • Thank you!
