  • Vibrato for euphonium download instrument

    Hello -

The VSL download euphonium instrument has a wonderfully rich sound that I find very authentic, but.......I'm wondering why the VSL euphonium's sustain only seems to be available as "sustained without vibrato," and if it's possible to create a vibrato by applying CC #131 (vibrato speed) and CC #17 (vibrato depth)? Or by assigning the Y-axis of the articulation matrix to another controller besides #1 and using CC #1 (modulation)? In my case this would all be done inside Finale 2012C (or 2010b if I need to export the audio) using the human playback template and hidden staff expressions that contain CC commands. This is quite important because I use euphoniums extensively as both solo instruments and within concert band setups, and a euphonium is just about useless if it's always played without any vibrato. Standard euphonium performance practice relies most of the time on a prominent vibrato. It's quite easy to apply vibrato to the Garritan Concert and Marching Band solo euphonium but I prefer to use VSL's because it sounds much more authentic.

  • Hello David,

Thank you for your nice words about the sound of our Euphonium. Regarding Vibrato: Please take in mind that our musicians are educated mostly in Vienna. Vibrato is of course not unusual, but many teachers and  orchestras prefer a clean sound for their brass and woodwind instruments. As for the MIDI Control Changes: This doesn't work except you use a VST-  or AU Plugin.

    All the best, Michael Hula
