  • Vienna ensemble pro question

Hi all! Excuse my bad english but lets see if you can understand my question. Im planning on buying Vienna Ensemble Pro 5, since my system has reached capacity limit, when i installed windows 7. System running: Pentium Core Quad, Windows 7 32 bit. 4 g ram installed (but only using 3,4 something due to limitations) Propellerheads Balance Asio soundcard. Sequencer Cubase 5, with lots of vsti plugins. My intention is to load more vsti plugins and audio samples on an existing overloaded project (cant basically playback without crackles and noise) but this is impossible with my current setup. Im therefore planning on buying a new slave computer (with an old Pentium D processor) and connect it via Vienna Ensemble Pro, to have more computing power. Slave will be running: Pentium D, Windows 7 64bit (or 32 bit?) 4 gb ram installed. Do you guys see any problems, limitations? Will i be able to run this setup? Will the 64bit OS on slave machine recognize my 32 bit plugins? Will I be able to load more vsti on my overloaded project? Thanks for helping, greatly appreciated! Nicola

  • Why not just change your current system to 64bit, and add more RAM?

  • I did an update recently to win 7, because my new soundcard (Propellerhead Balance) didnt worked on Xp. I didnt took the 64bit OS option thinking my 32bit plugins wouldnt be compatible with the 64bit. It was kind of a weeks job to update and install all plugins again and i dont want to go through that again. What are the possibilities? Could the new OS 64bit and Cubase 64bit accept 32 bit plugins? ANd you mean that only would do the trick? Just more RAM on an 64 bit Cubase and OS?

  • Cubase is going to require 'bridging' the 32-bit to use in Cubase 64-bit.

Using VE Pro will obviate this, you can run both a 32-bit and x64 server at the same time (consider  the plugin 'bridged' by that 32-bit server).

There is one thing in particular I have to run in 32-bit VE Pro server as it doesn't exist otherwise, and the update that does (Amplitube 3), last I checked really doesn't work in VE Pro 4 or 5.

You may get to access a little more of your 4GB RAM via VE Pro, but assuredly the performance of your project that's too big for Cubase alone will improve noticably.
