  • Vienna Ensemble Pro audio input in Sound Forge?

Hello everyone :) I need to batch edit thousands of samples through a chain of plugins on my Mac. There's no batch edit-through-plugins possibility in sound editing programs for Mac as far as I know. Sound Forge has been rewritten for Mac but so far the batch converter and other important stuff is missing. So... I tried to get VEP to work. Of course there is no way to open VEP as an instrument in Sound Forge since Sound Forge only opens effects, but I can open VEP in Plogue's Bidule and connect it to the server on my Mac containing the plugins. I can connect the audio input to Bidule, but not to Sound Forge. The Audio Input opens in Sound Forge but sees no connected server interfaces. What to do?

  • Cubase/Nuendo can do batch processing - actually in at least two different ways (batch export and offline processing in the Audio Pool).

  • Thanks o.O I'm a happy Logic user so I'd prefer other options. Looks like you're specialist on the forum, are you saying I can't use VEP in Sound Forge?

I have to admit that I quit using SoundForge about 10 years ago. All I can say is that Vienna Ensemble Pro is a VST/AU _instrument_ (opposed to an effect), so the host has to be able to deal with that kind of plug-in.

SoundForge's website cryptically talks about "64-bit VST/AU plug-ins" - no idea if this includes instruments, too.

    ... that's why I pointed out Cubase's / Nuendo's ability to do so. 😉

  • Bias Peak does batch processing too, BTW.

  • and is discontinued :( you're right of course, I need to know about other options. So a sound editor cannot be connected to VEP, what a shame. I guess with a tool like Jack I can only do real-time processing. I found a workaround for batch processing in Soundtrack Pro using Applescript http://www.rippletraining.com/batch_processing_audio_in_soundtrack_pro.html but I found out my Waves plugins are unavailable in Soundtrack Pro. So is Kore 2. And... I can't connect to VEP from Soundtrack Pro either. Now VEP crashed Soundtrack Pro, lol. Looks like I'll have to batch export in Logic. http://www.logic-users-group.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3981 I'll have to do more processing in Sound Forge after that, has more edit possibilities. Guess Cubase is not better then Logic for that? I mean: Sound Forge offers auto trim/crop, bit-change converter, channel converter, DC offset, Graphic Fade, Envelope, Invert, Normalize to assigned dB, Pan/Expand, Flexible Pitch Bend, Samplerate converter, dither, timestretch etc on top of vst FX in batch conversion. how do I use empty lines, like you? o.O

All of this (and more) can be done In Nuendo, and I think in Cubase, too.

  • Thanks!

Looks like the current Cubase trial version is fully functional for a month?

Will try when all samples are ready for it then and see how it works :)
