  • virtual keyboard question

I have Special Edition 1. My midi keyboard is not touch sensitive. I am working on an English horn melody (BTW, what a beautiful eng horn!). I see that using the virtual keyboard, it makes a difference in the sound where you touch the key. Specifically, the Eb above middle C stands out relative to the other pitches, but if you hit the key in the middle or back, it tones it down nicely. But on my midi keyboard, there is no effect when I do this. Is there a way to use the virtual keyboard to record into my sequencer, Sonar? I tried adjusting the velocity also, but no effect there either. I have a very basic midi keyboard. Thank You,

    Hi Michael,

Check out Velocity Xfade, as described in the video tutorials.

    Best,

  •  Hey, Michael.  I understand your situation, but if you have a few extra dollars, you can find pretty decent velocity-sensitive keyboard for $100.

The Alesis QX25 and M-Aduio Oxygen 25 are two examples.  The Korg Microkey 25 is on $70.

I have an M-Audio KeyRig 49 that works great with Vienna and a quick Google search finds it for $100 or less.

I know we all have to watch our money but this might make things easier for you.  I am sure other users can comment which USB keyboards they have found best.

  • Thanks, very much, I was coming to the conclusion that it must be my keyboard that is at fault, as another member of the forum was kind of suggesting. Or else I'm doing something else wrong. but I think you must be right. I must have the first midi keyboard made. No mod wheel, no controls, just an of/off switch. And I think I paid too much for it, to boot...
