  • VI PRO, VST EXPRESSION MAPS with CHAMBER STRINGS

Hi folks, checking older MIDI Material I thought the VST EXPRESSION MAPS might be usefull. Thus I installed them in the Directory Manager as well as in CUBASE 6.5.4. The problem is, that only some of the articulations are triggered and, furthermore, a pizz is a snap a trem. is a trill etc. I used the VI PRO Presets which follow the new articulations order of VI PRO 2. Is there anybody out there who might give me a hint. That'll be great. best regards

  • Hello Adorno!

The Expression Maps only work correctly with the VI Presets they come with.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi, thanx for the hint. I tried it out and it didn't work out with VI Pro2. After saving the *.fxp file in VI, I was able to load it into VI Pro2. Basically it worked but from my short experience view I gotta say, that working with a second lane with keyswitches and Noteexpression with cc the workflow there seems to me more efficient, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. Second, in the Key editor, I find the amount to select from different articulations (from dropdown menu) too little. I was looking for spicato to have "expressed" a light run upwards. I did'nt find it. Ok now I can enter the Expression Map editor but this one is not really comfi to deal with to make quick adaptions to the settings. Third, I thought a cresc would work with normal articulations but in fact a trill wasn't reacting at all even by putting it some ticks before or after. From the point of view of a muscian with classical skills I'm still not very convinced concerning the convenient programming of a mockup. So far. Thanx again and I'm gratefull for any further hints. Bye

  • Hi Adorno!

It's not necessary to convert the fxp files. They can be loaded directly with VI Pro. Just make sure that they are placed in your VSL Custom Data Folder (or a subfolder). The location of this folder is set up in the Directory Manager.

If you choose staccato from the articulations lane, it depends on the speed of the notes if staccato or spiccato is played, because for the Y-Axis Speed-Control is set up in the VI presets for the strings Expression Maps. Of course it would be possible to change that to a keyswitch or MIDI CC in order to have a more detailed control. If you do so, you can add this controller to your arrangement manually in the key editor.

The trills work fine with the Expression Maps here. I'm not sure why they didn't work on your machine.

    Best,
    Andi
