Finale 2011 vs. 2012 HP playback?
Hello, I'm currently a Finale 2011 user. Besides the problem of exporting audio files, which I have read about here. Has anybody noticed an improvement in HP playback between 2011 and 2012?? I've been currently working on a piece for only horns and encountering many problems of the expression sliders getting "stuck" one way or another during playback. All chord balance, solo instrument detect etc is turned OFF. Anybody?

Hello Paukenguy!
I have also answered your mail that you have sent us. I just like to mention that I wasn't able to reproduce your stuck slider problem here. I have opened your project with Finale 2011b and Finale 2012c. There is not much difference as far as playback is concerned. Anyway, no slider got stuck.
Our software has no influence on which CC11 values get sent by Finale for which dynamic mark. Finale tries to simulate human playing by changing this value also within notes.
Best regards,
Andi

If Finale's midi tool were more human friendly you could do it there but I've had absolutely no luck putting in my own CC data with that. The best I can do is put in a series of hidden expressions with various values for CC11 or CC2 or whatever and hope they override the problem.
As a last resort I'll export a midi file and import into a DAW (Reaper for me) where I can see the CC data and adjust accordingly.

Does Reaper work well for editing the Midi file? I've been thinking of buying a DAW, but I've not been sure which, and I have not want to spend big $$$. When you export a midi file, does it export the HP CC commands as well?

Sure Reaper can edit a midi file. There's a learning curve with it but it works just fine. You can of course work with audio tracks as well which you can't do with Finale. You can also install it and use it in demo mode indefinitely until you decide to purchase.
I believe there's an option to tell Finale to export midi with the human playback info. I'll have to look up where that is exactly.
